My journey from Army paratrooper to licensed massage therapist. And why TOS became the perfect condition for my Pain to Strength System.
I served in the Army as an infantryman.
I jumped out of planes with 80-100 pounds of gear strapped to my body. I rucked for miles, trained nonstop, and deployed to Afghanistan during 2012-2013.
The physical toll eventually caught up with me.
When I left the service in 2015, I had constant chronic hip and back pain that made everyday life feel like a battle.
I'd wake up in pain, limp through the day, and some days couldn't walk at all.
"I couldn't work out. I couldn't enjoy life. And the scariest part? No one had real answers."
I wanted to be pain-free.
I wanted to sleep through the night without being woken by back pain. I wanted to lift again, move freely, and walk without fear that my leg would randomly give out.
I just wanted to feel normal again.

Nothing worked.
Or if it did help, the pain came back within minutes. The traditional healthcare system gave me piecemeal treatments for what was clearly a full-body, systemic issue.
The villain wasn't any one person. It was the system itself.
Most doctors meant well, but their hands were tied. I kept seeing the same patterns:
If I didn't find a solution, I was headed for surgery. And possibly a lifetime of problems I wouldn't be able to handle.
That meant long recovery, uncertain outcomes, and potential complications.
I couldn't accept that.
I didn't want to be dependent, broken, or stuck in a body that kept betraying me when I knew there was something I could do about it.
Failure wasn't an option.
After realizing all these different treatments were failing me one after another, I said "no more" and decided to do something about it myself.
That's when I joined a personal trainer program that also paid me to be there (thanks to the GI Bill).
I pivoted from the random business school I was sitting in to this personal trainer course.
During this time, I was enrolled in a class called Corrective Exercise. Basically an intro version to Physical Therapy where we learned exercises, stretches, and techniques for chronic pain.
In corrective exercise class, we learned about the Corrective Exercise Continuum. A 4-step process for helping with pain:
But here's what I realized: This 4-step process barely scratched the surface of what was actually causing the pain.
They spent maybe 30 seconds to a minute foam rolling trigger points and fascial restrictions. That wasn't enough.
It was like trying to untie a knot by barely tugging on it.
That's when it hit me: Trigger points are the root cause of chronic pain.
They lock the body up, pull on muscles and joints, and create a cascade of dysfunction.
And yet, no one was focusing on them.
Why were we trying to strengthen weak muscles to "fight off" tight muscles, instead of addressing the tightness itself?
Why were we ignoring the very thing that was creating the pain in the first place?
I thought about it like a seesaw in a park.
Imagine one side is anchored to the ground and tied there with a rope. The seesaw is now off balance. One side locked up with knots, the other side in the air, unable to do anything.
Now imagine trying to fix this problem by pulling down as hard as you can on the side that's higher instead of just untying the rope on the other side first.
This is what I realized was happening with my own therapy.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized the problem wasn't just the lack of focus on trigger points.
It was also the way therapists approached pain relief:
If I could master trigger point therapy and combine it with other modalities (like stretching, posture correction, and strengthening), I could create a system that actually worked.
A system that didn't just mask pain but eliminated it at the source.
I used the rest of my GI Bill to study everything I could about the body.
I completed over 750+ hours of coursework and hands-on training:
I earned my license as a Sports Massage Therapist, specializing in trigger-point therapy, myofascial release, and posture correction.
I also earned certifications as a Human Movement Specialist (HMS), NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES).
During all of this schooling, I was also working on myself and other clients.
I was practicing all these new skills and trying to figure out how to put stretches with massage, massage with exercises.
I spent hundreds of hours practicing on myself and others, experimenting with different techniques, and refining my approach.

"Two weeks in, maybe three weeks in, I was again, completely without symptoms. I felt like... nothing. No pain, no numbness, nothing."
This kept happening.
Client after client with TOS. People who'd been suffering for years with no answers were getting their lives back in weeks.
That's when I realized something profound:
The brachial plexus (nerve bundle) gets compressed by tight muscles. Specifically the scalenes, pec minor, and subclavius.
Traditional PT barely touches these areas. Trigger point therapy directly releases them.
The burning, tingling, numbness that TOS causes? Those are the EXACT symptoms that trigger points in the neck and chest create.
Most doctors don't know this. They think it's nerve damage and send you for surgery.
Physical therapists give you shoulder shrugs and band exercises.
Massage therapists avoid the neck and chest. Doctors want to cut into you.
Nobody addresses the fascial restrictions and trigger points that are THE ROOT CAUSE.
When you release the scalenes, pec minor, subclavius, SCM, and lats with proper trigger point technique (combined with stretching and strengthening in the right order), the nerve compression disappears.
Pain goes away in days, not months.
The traditional medical system treats TOS like it's a mystery.
It's not.
It's tight fascia compressing nerves. Release the fascia (Phase 1), restore mobility (Phase 2), retrain movement (Phase 3).
That's it. That's the system.
After seeing dozens of TOS clients get rapid relief when nothing else worked, I realized: TOS was the ideal demonstration of what my Pain to Strength System could do.
It showcased everything that made my approach different:
Not because I abandoned my other work. But because TOS patients needed this system the most.
And because the results were undeniable.
When you can help someone eliminate years of suffering in 2-4 weeks, you know you're onto something.
After the dust settled from all my experiments (not only on myself but then confirmed on hundreds of clients), I was finally able to confidently say that I became pain-free.
And it wasn't just me.
So many of my clients stopped feeling pain that their doctors failed at removing.
Throughout the whole process with so many trials and errors, I was able to create the perfect system for getting out of pain.
I like to call it the Pain to Strength System. Now refined specifically for TOS as the NerveFix Blueprint 3.0.
Loosen the tight fascia that's compressing nerves and blood vessels while making muscles weak and tight.
This is the crucial first step for getting rid of pain quickly as it targets the main cause of pain and tightness.
Work on getting posture and mobility back to the way it was (or even better than before).
Once the fascia is released from phase 1, the muscles and fascia can properly stretch without being tied down. This allows for improved posture and mobility.
Retrain the body with proper movement patterns and strengthening to maintain the improvements gained in the first two phases.
This ensures long-term results and prevents relapse.
A system that gave expert tips and techniques in all areas of treatment. Not just the exercises.
Because at the end of the day, it wasn't just PT or just massage that helped me.
It was combining everything together into a multi-treatment model that not only helped me but everyone else I tried this sequence on.
Thanks to my Pain to Strength System, I'm now completely pain-free.
I've regained my mobility, my confidence, and my independence.
I can play disc golf, spend time with my family and dog, and even work out again without fear of injury or setbacks.
But the best part? I know exactly how to keep my pain from coming back.
A system that gave expert tips and techniques in all areas of treatment. Not just the exercises.
Because at the end of the day, it wasn't just PT or just massage that helped me.
It was combining everything together into a multi-treatment model that not only helped me but everyone else I tried this sequence on.
